Here are some details about the best beaches in CostaRica. Dominical It is a quiet fishing village, about 44 km south of Quepos, and sports beautiful surroundings with romantic sunsets and a serene atmosphere. The beach here is wide and long and the sands are dark. Snorkelling is good here and there are a couple of waterfalls nearby. As the development here is on a low-key it is less crowded except when surfers crowd here to chase the waves that are big and powerful. The scenic beauty, the beach presents, attracts a lot of foreigners. It is now connected by roads from other places though a lot remains to be done. This area is widely known for outstanding wildlife refuges in the New World Tropics. The area is famous for lush scenery and is an outstanding ecotourism oriented community in Central America. The Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve is run by Tropical Science Center on a non-profit basis and contains 6 distinct eco-zones. As a result of its altitude the clouds go through the forest and hence is known more as a cloud forest than a rain forest. There are several ridges here and there - like the Lomas de Sierpe – comprising lava from old volcanic ones, pyroclasts, andesite, and pumic stone. The rivers carrying silt meander through this region and the coastal tides shift in parallel strips leading to straight beaches. These shores pounded by the wild surf and made of dark sands are ideal breeding grounds for sea turtles to lay eggs. The Pacific green turtle nests from July to October , the leatherbacks from February to july. This park is used by hawksbill , the Pacific green species that measures 1 metre long and weighs upto 200 kilos, and the leatherback, the largest sea turtle weighing upto 700 kilos, for laying eggs. Puerto limon This beach presents a neglected scenario. This was once a principal port and activities at the harbour ceased long back. This was made worse by an earthquake in 1991 that left a trail of devastations. Though the place carries a lot of scare stories with some exaggerations one needs to be watchful during the stay. Normally tourists come to this place to take a boat to Tortuguero, or to get a bus to beach towns of Cahuita and Puerto Viejo or to take part in the carnival celebration of El Dia de la Raza. Puerto Viejo de talamanca It is the most beautiful beach in the country. It is though not famous for swimming, the beach is very picturesque. There is plenty of place for stay and it is more brimming with activity when compared to many others. This place is known for surfing and the waves here present a challenge to many. Puerto Viejo’s well known ‘ La Salsa Brava ‘ crashes ashore between the months of December and March and from June to July. September and October are quieter and La Salsa Brava moves to places with big waves. Here is a glimpse of the famous Viejo de talamanca
